National Association Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) released the findings of the research it conducted in association with Frost & Sullivan on monetizing the emerging markets for the small and medium businesses (SMBs).
The research claims the SMB market is estimated to witness a year-on-year growth of 15 percent CAGR. This is expected to propel the IT spending in the sector to over $ 18.5 billion (about Rs 111 thousand crore) by 2018.
It says the Indian SMBs are rapidly innovating and adopting technology solutions to enhance competitiveness in the global and domestic business environment.
“SMBs across all verticals, play a critical role in the resurgence of Indian economy and contribution to GDP and employment generation.
NASSCOM feels SMBs face significant challenges in the volatile business environment and global competition, adding that technology can enable them to be competitive, drive growth and integrate with global supply chains.
NASSCOM announced it will partner with the Indian government and industry associations to ensure successful adoption of IT in SMBs.
The report claims that SMBs currently employ about 40 percent of the country’s workforce and contributes to over 17 percent of the national gross domestic product (GDP).
NASSCOM, in its report claims SaaS adoption by Indian SMBs is growing at a CAGR of 25 percent and is expected to reach $ 370 million (about Rs 2,220 crore) by 2018. A significant portion of SMBs would continue to focus on business software and enterprise applications, mainly for an integrated business view.
